The Apollo-Ridge Board has come to terms with the Apollo-Ridge Education Association for a five-year "early bird" contract which will extend from August 2, 2018 to August 1, 2023. The Agreement was approved at an advertised Special Meeting for this purpose that was held at 6:30 p.m. on November 8, 2017.
The Agreement is the product of positive negotiations between both parties, demonstrating flexibility and cooperation. Over the duration of the Agreement, teachers will receive step progression supplemented with and an average raise of 0.883% to the scale over the five year period. This represents an overall average increase of approximately 2.84% annually per individual. Raises were able to be offset through a change in health care to a Qualified High Deductible Health Plan, which approximates a 20% reduction in premium cost from the current year.
The Special Meeting was held in advance of November's Legislative Meeting in order to approve a Memorandum of Understanding to begin the negotiated health care plan effective January 1 of 2018. In order for this to be accomplished several deadlines had to be met. The early start will provide even greater savings to the District and school community.
The District is appreciative of the willingness of the teaching staff to seek creative ways to maintain competitive compensation while working in a difficult economic climate, and is proud of the service and dedication of their team. Both the Apollo-Ridge Board of School Directors and Apollo-Ridge Education Association are pleased to achieve an Agreement that is responsive to the needs of the district and community.
